Description

The way material cycles through different phases and locations from cold gas within galaxies to hot material outside galaxies in the inter- and circumgalactic media has proven key to a full understanding of galaxy evolution. New observatories and advanced simulations are revolutionising our understanding of the cycling of matter into, through, and out of galaxies. The talk aims at summarising how our current understanding of the cold phase of the gas might complement recent new reports of diffuse X-ray emission of the hot component to eventually build a global picture of baryon content of the circum-galactic medium of typical galaxies.
